The members of our Board of Trustees come from a broad range of backgrounds and experience in the public, private and charity sector. They work in a voluntary capacity, meeting regularly to help guide PBI UK's strategy and policy, and decide how funds are spent.

Tamsin Mitchell (Chair)

A long-time supporter of Peace Brigades International UK, Tamsin joined the board in January 2016 and became Chair in February 2017. She has 13 years’ experience of working in the human rights and development sector. From 2007 to 2016, she was a researcher and campaigner for the free expression NGO PEN International, providing advocacy, material and moral support to writers and journalists at risk in Africa and the Americas. She is currently conducting doctoral research on the effectiveness of protection mechanisms and strategies for journalists and human rights defenders at risk of violence in Latin America.


Jason Hurwitz  (Treasurer)

Jason joined PBI as a Treasurer trustee bringing experience from financial services, in both investments and small business lending, along with experience from a large entrepreneurial venture of his own. His areas of expertise include financial management, strategy development, planning, growth and organisational change. Jason helps bring an understanding of the corporate commercial environment coupled with direct experience of running smaller organisations. He joined the board in November 2016.



Melanie Breiter

Melanie is Donor Relations Manager at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, where she identifies funding opportunities for more productive and sustainable agriculture in the tropics.  She has worked in the charity sector since 2007 and was a field volunteer with the PBI Colombia project from 2008 – 2009. She has experience working in a fundraising and project management capacity in the UK, Colombia and Peru and is a registered election observer for the German government.  



Sophia Kerridge

Sophia is working as a paralegal at Kingsley Napley LLP and writing her LLM thesis on corporate crime and human rights. She spent almost three years working in Colombia with PBI, where she was a member of the field team in Barrancabermeja, and a field team coordinator in Bogota. 




Deborah Nathan

Deborah is an Employment Solicitor at Capsticks LLP where she advises healthcare organisations, NHS Trusts and charities on employment law issues.  She has a keen interest in charity governance and HR issues and in PBI's aims and work.
