Donate today to protect human rights activism

We’re writing today to ask you to stand in solidarity with human rights defenders and make a donation to support their vital work.

Sebastian Escobar Uribe has received anonymous threats and been put under surveillance by Colombian intelligence agencies as a reprisal for his work as a human rights lawyer. But with PBI’s support, he continues to fight for justice for the victims of abuses by the country’s security forces.

This week, we welcomed him to London to successfully advocate for action from politicians, lawyers, NGOs and the Foreign Office.

But these kinds of activities are only possible thanks to your donations.

In Honduras, Dina Meza works as an independent journalist, working to expose the truth about State violence against indigenous communities and human rights defenders. But her fight for justice means she has been threatened, harassed, and spied on. She is determined these intimidation tactics will not stop her speaking out - but she needs your support.

Your donation today can help protect people like Dina and support their work to defend human rights.

At PBI, our job is to work with communities and stand alongside brave individuals like Sebastian and Dina who are fighting to end abuses and build a better world. At home and abroad, human rights are at risk, and we must support the people who are fighting to protect hard fought freedoms. Once lost, they could be lost forever.

When politicians, armies and companies prioritise power and wealth over human rights, those who speak out risk violent attacks, threats against their children, and even death.

For 40 years, PBI volunteers have accompanied human rights defenders in their darkest hours and their greatest triumphs, but it would not have been possible without you. And, with the UK government planning to scrap the Human Rights Act and pass a Public Order Bill that restricts protest, we need your support here too.

Donate just £25 today and you could help PBI speak out against the Government's proposals to roll back rights in the UK.

Donate £50 today and you could help PBI send teams to protect indigenous leaders resisting mining projects that are destroying communities in rural Guatemala, and support them in protecting the environment.

Donate £500 and you could help a threatened activist demand action in the UK, like Sebastian did this week. With a return to face-to-face activities now possible, we want to be ready again to provide respite and advocacy opportunities for those who need them..

From Colombia to Kenya, Honduras to Nepal, your support will help us to stand up and protect human rights alongside people like Sebastian and Dina.

If you are able to, please give today.
