20 Years Weaving Care

After 20 years protecting human rights defenders in Mexico, a new PBI report highlights the current threats facing activists there, and what we’re doing to support them

This week, PBI’s team in Mexico published their annual report 20 Years Weaving Care. The publication, which is in Spanish and is beautifully illustrated, contains:

  • An analysis of the current human rights situation in the country, the threats and obstacles to activism, and some of the methods being used to overcome them.

  • A description of our how work in Mexico is evolving into the MEP 3.0 model which provides agile interventions to protect human rights defenders in different regions when they most need it.

  • An in-depth look at some of the stand-out human rights issues which PBI is supporting defenders in tackling, including land grabs and environmental destruction, as well as enforced disappearances.

  • Testimony from a broad range of Mexican human rights defenders.

  • Illustrated maps of the regions where PBI works, including Oaxaca, Chihuahua, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Morelos, Guerrero and Coahuila.

  • A detailed breakdown of the field project’s activities, staff, volunteers and finances in 2021.

As well as via the protective accompaniment of PBI’s field teams in-country, we are working to connect defenders in Mexico with support networks around the world.
