A Lasting Shield for Human Rights
After providing for your loved ones, a gift in your Will ensures your values of justice and peace live on. By remembering PBI UK, you ensure that as long as there are defenders at risk, there will be someone standing beside them.
Why Leave a Legacy to PBI UK?
Human rights struggles often span decades. A legacy gift provides the long-term stability PBI needs to see these fights through to the end. Your gift helps us:
Sustain Protection: Ensure field teams remain in place until the danger has passed.
Amplify Voices: Fund advocacy tours that bring frontline activists directly to the UK Parliament and international audiences.
Protect the Planet: Safeguard the Indigenous land defenders who are our best hope against climate change.
The Difference a Legacy Makes
Protection is not abstract; it creates the space for real transformation:
Justice in Guatemala: We supported journalist Norma Sancir through a decade-long legal battle, culminating in a landmark 2024 conviction for the defence of journalistic freedom.
Environmental Wins in Kenya: PBI support helped local defenders successfully disband a nuclear power agency threatening their natural coastline in 2025.
Women’s Rights in Colombia: We have stood with Yanette Bautista for over 30 years in her search for the disappeared, which has led to historic new laws for women's protection.
"Knowing we are not alone gives us the strength to keep going. When PBI stands with us, the world is watching." — Community Leader, Mexico
In December 2025, PBI UK welcomed two Indigenous women human rights defenders to London for a flagship event at LUSH Studio Soho. The event brought together supporters, journalists, legal professionals and NGOs to hear directly from defenders from Mexico and West Papua whose communities are affected by extractive industries, agribusiness, militarisation and impunity.
PBI UK’s Director, Ben Leather, said at that event:
“We have seen the strength and resilience that community leaders and survivors of abuses can harness from knowing that they are not alone and that, around the world, people are willing to take action to safeguard them and champion their causes.”

How to Leave a Gift
Leaving a gift is a straightforward way to make a lasting impact. You can choose to leave:
A Share of your Estate (Residuary): A percentage of what remains after other gifts are made.
A Fixed Sum (Pecuniary): A specific donation amount.
A Specific Item: Such as property, stocks, or shares.
Note: Gifts to UK-registered charities are generally exempt from Inheritance Tax and can reduce the overall tax rate applied to your estate.
