Nanette Onu and Rowan Popplewell Join PBI UK Board of Trustees
We are delighted to announce that Nanette Onu (Director at Protimos and I Am Somebody's Child Soldier) and Rowan Popplewell (Policy and Advocacy Manager at Bond) have joined the Peace Brigades International (PBI) UK Board of Trustees.
Nanette (pictured centre) is a values-driven fundraiser who primarily works in the fields of human and children's rights, social justice, and the humanitarian sector. She first engaged with PBI at university and led PBI’s fundraising and finance efforts in Colombia for two years.
As Director at Protimos and at I Am Somebody's Child Soldier, Nanette works towards the rule of law, mental health support and quality education across Europe and Africa. She has previously worked with the UN World Food Programme, Oxfam, and other UK and international non-profits across Europe, Africa and Latin America.
Rowan (pictured far right) is Policy and Advocacy Manager at Bond, the UK network for organisations working in international development, humanitarian assistance and peacebuilding. She has led the organisation's work on civic space, human rights, conflict, sanctions and counter-terrorism since 2017.
Prior to that, she spent three years researching the experiences of human rights defenders and peace-builders in central Africa as part of her doctorate at the University of Oxford.
Nanette and Rowan join a Board of Trustees made up of experts in law, human rights, environmental campaigning, human resources and financial management.
Welcoming Nanette and Rowan, PBI UK’s Director Ben Leather said “We’re delighted that Nanette and Rowan have joined the Board. We’re really looking forward to learning from Nanette’s expertise in fundraising in the field of human rights and Rowan’s background in policy and advocacy on civic space, and to working with them both as PBI continues to grow and strengthen its offering for human rights defenders around the world.”
