Todas Somos Defensoras - We are all woman human rights defenders

New Project Highlights the Struggles and Resilience of Women Human Rights Defenders in Latin America

"Todas Somos Defensoras" ("We Are All Women Human Rights Defenders") is a collaborative project launched by the Asociación ICID and Peace Brigades International (PBI), with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). This initiative aims to promote the right to defend human rights and to protect individuals and organisations advocating for land rights and historical memory in Latin America. Through journalistic content, photographic exhibitions, tours led by defenders, and social and political advocacy actions, the project seeks to amplify the voices of those courageously standing up for their communities. A central focus of this project is the visibility and protection of women human rights defenders, many of whom PBI has long provided with protective accompaniment.

The project sheds light on the challenges faced by human rights defenders, particularly in regions like Colombia and Guatemala, where environmental degradation, extractive industries, and historical injustices threaten communities. By sharing powerful stories and fostering international solidarity, "Todas Somos Defensoras" underscores the importance of protecting those who defend human rights and the environment. The initiative also calls for greater recognition and support for these defenders, emphasizing the need for comprehensive protection measures and the promotion of human rights.
